Open Text to Introduce Content Integration for eRoom
Open Text "Opens" Livelink Doorways to eRoom Users
Chicago, IL - 2002-11-07 - Open Text Corporation (Nasdaq: OTEX, TSX: OTC), provider of Livelink®, the leading collaboration and knowledge management software for the global enterprise, today announced it will extend the capabilities of its content integration platform Livelink Doorways to eRoom repositories and applications. The solution will give eRoom customers enterprise scalability to utilize eRoom and Livelink together, and allow users to access content and features in eRoom from Livelink.
Introduced in September, Livelink Doorways gives companies a content integration framework that enhances collaboration by bringing together all of a company's content, no matter where it resides, and making it available to users in Livelink.
By supporting eRoom with Livelink Doorways, Livelink acts as a central point for enterprise content management and collaboration, while providing easy access to the data and elements residing in eRoom. Along with the new Doorways solution for eRoom, Open Text will also provide a set of conversion tools through its professional services organization to allow eRoom users to upgrade to Livelink and its advanced collaborative capabilities.
"With the uncertainty in today's market, customers want scalability in the collaborative solutions they adopt and the confidence of knowing they can leverage a technology investment over the long term without excessive upgrades and unnecessary ownership costs," said Mike Farrell, Executive Vice President of Global Sales and Marketing, Open Text. "Livelink Doorways bridges existing repositories and applications, so that legacy systems can continue to be leveraged. For eRoom customers, we're offering more options: they can continue to utilize eRoom technology, while gaining all the benefits of Livelink. They also have a second option for upgrading their eRoom solution and choosing the integrated collaboration and knowledge management features of Livelink."
Livelink Doorways already offers access to Documentum 4i and a variety of file systems, including Microsoft Windows, UNIX NFS and Oracle iFS. Open Text also plans to add connectors for Hummingbird DM and DOCS Open, Lotus Notes and Domino, and other repositories, as well as provide a means for partners and customers to develop connectors to their own unique repositories.
How Livelink Doorways Works:
With Livelink Doorways, other content sources are mounted as containers or "doorways" within users' Livelink workspaces. Folders, directory structures and documents from these content sources are navigable from each doorway within Livelink, using the source's native hierarchical structure and respecting each user's permissions to access such content.
Livelink Doorways lets users:
- Navigate, display, and view renditions and attributes of documents and compound documents from other repositories, using Livelink as the single, integrated Web-based interface.
- Add and delete documents and folders from other repositories.
- Create aliases in Livelink for content from other sources, so that it can be referenced as collaboration objects in Livelink discussions, tasks, workflows, project workspaces, news channels and more.
- Attach documents from any repository to approval and review processes implemented using workflows in Livelink.
- Access content in any repository from Livelink collaborative workspaces, so that users can build out these spaces with all of the needed content, wherever it's located.
- Conduct cross repository searches for content from Livelink via Livelink Brokered Search.
