Open Text Receives Basex Excellence Award
Industry Analyst Firm Selects Livelink Classifications for All-Around Excellence
Chicago, IL - 2002-10-01 - Open Text Corporation (Nasdaq: OTEX, TSX: OTC), provider of Livelink®, the leading collaboration and knowledge management software for the global enterprise, today announced that Basex, a leading industry analyst and consulting firm specializing in Collaborative Business Knowledge, has selected Livelink Classifications to receive the Basex Excellence Award. Known as "Basey", this award is given to companies in the Collaborative Business Knowledge market who have achieved industry-leading and all-around excellence for a product or service in 2002.
The Basey Award, presented at Basex's Fall CIO Summit on October 1, 2002 in New York City, is awarded to Open Text for Livelink Classifications, in recognition of the product as a leader in the management of unstructured content.
"Livelink Classifications provides the knowledge worker with choice, and the corporation with structure," says Jonathan B. Spira, Chairman and Chief Analyst, Basex. "We chose to recognize Open Text's Livelink Classifications because it is the type of innovative technology that assists global enterprises to make optimum use of their unstructured content."
"We are honored to be acknowledged by Basex and pleased that our efforts to offer new and innovative ways to manage content and provide structure to unstructured data are recognized with The Basey Award," says Anik Ganguly, Executive Vice President, Open Text. "Our customers told us that the growing repository of unstructured content presents an enormous challenge when trying to make their employees efficient and effective. We responded with Livelink Classifications, offering everyone within an enterprise the ability and freedom to classify content to satisfy their own personal working needs, while still honoring the classifications of the corporation."
Livelink Classifications helps companies gain control of vast repositories of content, improve knowledge management and speed information retrieval. With Livelink Classifications, companies can apply structure to unstructured content by assigning classifications, either automatically, semi-automatically or manually. Classification librarians can assign multiple classifications to a single item and users can assign classifications to documents they own, all without duplicating data. This allows content to be structured in ways that fit a user's perspective on the information, so a business case for a new product, for example, can be classified in two ways to fit the different perspectives of a product engineer and a marketing manager. Livelink Classifications also lets users assign records management classifications to documents that must be retained and managed according to specific records management policies.
