Open Text Introduces Enterprise Content Integration for Livelink

Livelink Doorways Facilitates Collaboration by Giving Livelink Users Access to Content in Other Repositories

Chicago, IL - 2002-09-25 - Open Text Corporation (Nasdaq: OTEX, TSX: OTC), provider of Livelink®, the leading collaboration and knowledge management software for the global enterprise, today introduced Livelink Doorways which allows users in Livelink to access and use content from other repositories within an enterprise.

Livelink Doorways gives companies a content integration framework that enhances collaboration by bringing together all of a company's content, no matter where it resides, and making it available to users collaborating in Livelink. The first release of Livelink Doorways offers access to Documentum 4i and a variety of file systems, including Microsoft Windows, UNIX NFS and Oracle iFS. In later releases, Open Text expects to add connectors for Hummingbird DM and DOCS Open, Lotus Notes and Domino, and other repositories, as well as provide a means for partners and customers to develop connectors to their own unique repositories.

Livelink Doorways is the third recently announced content-centric initiative by Open Text designed to further integrate collaboration and knowledge management. The value for companies is that knowledge generated through collaboration is captured in a company's knowledge repository which, in turn, is more easily mined to make collaborative work more effective. Last week, Open Text announced Livelink for Content Management to support collaborative website content development, and its intention to acquire Centrinity, Inc. (TSX: CTI), which will extend Livelink's content footprint to include email and voicemail as part of an organization's corporate memory. Livelink Doorways helps global organizations meet the challenge of leveraging multiple content repositories to establish better business processes. With Livelink Doorways, Livelink becomes a central point for information access and collaboration across the enterprise, bridging islands of existing application-based repositories.

"Livelink Doorways allows us to surface information from disparate repositories no matter the technology," said George S. Rathbun, Technology Manager, Pfizer Inc. "We realize there is no way that any one technology or single repository could ever manage all the information maintained across our enterprise. Creating multiple 'doorways' to information relative to hierarchies within Livelink allows users to seamlessly surface content through a familiar interface, while leveraging all the knowledge management and personalization features of Livelink."

"Easy access to information is a fundamental requirement for successful collaboration across functions, between companies and across geographic regions," said Anik Ganguly, Executive Vice President for Products, Open Text. "By offering content integration in Livelink, we can give users the ability to collaborate with their colleagues worldwide and use information in any repository, from any vendor. The benefits are enormous. For example, consider two recently merged companies, with different existing repositories of information. People from both companies need to work together immediately and collaborate around a mixture of content from those repositories. Livelink Doorways gives them an easy way to do that without having to wrestle with the time and costs of integration."

With Livelink Doorways, other content sources are mounted as containers or "doorways" within users' Livelink workspaces. Folders, directory structures and documents from these content sources are navigable from each doorway within Livelink, using the source's native hierarchical structure and respecting each user's permissions to access such content.

Livelink Doorways lets users:

  • Navigate, display, and view renditions and attributes of documents and compound documents from other repositories, using Livelink as the single, integrated Web-based interface.

  • Add and delete documents and folders from other repositories.

  • Create aliases in Livelink for content from other sources, so that it can be referenced as collaboration objects in Livelink discussions, tasks, workflows, project workspaces, news channels and more.

  • Attach documents from any repository to approval and review processes implemented using workflows in Livelink.

  • Access content in any repository from Livelink collaborative workspaces, so that users can build out these spaces with all of the needed content, wherever it's located.

  • Conduct cross repository searches for content from Livelink via Livelink Brokered Search.
