Open Text Introduces Content Management Offering For Livelink
Combines Livelink Content Management Capabilities into a Single Offering, Integrated with Knowledge Management and Collaboration
Chicago, IL - 2002-09-16 - Open Text Corporation (Nasdaq: OTEX, TSE: OTC), provider of Livelink®, the leading collaboration and knowledge management software for the global enterprise, said today it is extending Livelink to offer integrated Web content management. The new offering will tie content management into Livelink's extensive knowledge management and collaborative capabilities.
Open Text customers, including Unilever Bestfoods and the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) Central Secretariat, already use content management features in Livelink, which allow them to preview and publish content. Content Management for Livelink will combine these features with new capabilities to give customers a complete Web content management solution. Consumer products giant Unilever Bestfoods is an example of the kind of customer that can benefit from the new solution.
"The Web plays a critical role in our business, so effective content management has been a priority for us," said Gerard Prins, e-commerce manager for Unilever Bestfoods. "While we have been using Livelink to publish content to multiple sites, we think this new offering can complement what we're doing today, and allow us to manage content more cost-effectively. That can add real value to our business."
By fully integrating content management into Livelink, Open Text will provide a complete offering that solves all the collaboration, content management and knowledge management problems that organizations face today. For example, authorized users can submit content for publication and, once approved, have it published dynamically to the Web site. Information from other applications such as databases, document management repositories and other enterprise applications can be dynamically extracted and integrated into the Web site.
Content Management for Livelink will also be fully integrated with Livelink's collaboration tools, enabling robust workflows to be used for content approval processes, and providing access to real-time collaboration with Livelink MeetingZone for virtual meetings to review and approve content. Because of its ease of use, Content Management for Livelink will be the first offering that puts affordable content management into the hands of the non-technical business user.
This kind of integration is already paying dividends to customers such as The ISO Central Secretariat, which has collaborated in the development of Content Management for Livelink. ISO is an international organization that has long standing expertise in organizing content management and distribution as well as collaboration on a worldwide scale. ISO extended its use of Livelink for knowledge management and collaboration to include managing content for its bilingual Web site, www.iso.org, and its Web store. ISO's solution can access and publish content from its Livelink repository or, for its Web store, pull information from ISO's product catalog residing in an Oracle database and publish it on the Web site in response to queries from end users.
"ISO is an organization deeply involved in collaboration, the development of technical content and the dissemination of information," said Pasi Rinta Filppula, IT director of the ISO Central Secretariat. "We create content in a collaborative process that encompasses 750 ISO working bodies and 200,000 plus technical experts from all corners of the globe. In order to deliver this content via the Web effectively, we needed an integrated solution. Livelink is the application that can meet our needs for collaboration, knowledge management and content management in a cost effective way."
"More customers are beginning to view content management as part of their overall knowledge management structure," said Anik Ganguly, executive vice president for products at Open Text. "Livelink has had almost all the underlying technology necessary to support content management applications in general, and Web content management applications in particular. Offering the packaged solution is an obvious extension of Livelink. With content management built in to Livelink, we're giving customers the most complete knowledge management offering. At the same time, customers avoid having to buy separate solutions and combine them on their own. This lowers their costs and reduces the time it takes to recognize the return on their investment."
Content Management for Livelink will include:
- Content authoring and creation.
- Multilingual site creation and management.
- Content approval and staging.
- Content distribution and syndication.
- Content delivery and personalization.
Content Management for Livelink will let teams of contributors work together to deliver compelling content over the Web. Authorized users with no previous knowledge of Web publishing will be empowered to create sites, add content using familiar authoring tools, such as Microsoft Word, and Dreamweaver, and submit content for approval and review. Templates will ensure that the "look and feel" of the site is always consistent, and separation of content from "look and feel" ensures that either can be modified independently of one another.
Content Management for Livelink will also leverage Livelink's metadata and search capabilities, so customers can avoid buying third-party solutions in order to offer comprehensive search capabilities on their sites. Livelink's rich metadata capabilities can be used by Content Management for Livelink to decide where and how content appears on a site, in advanced queries, or to personalize the content for particular users or groups of users. Content navigation trees are automatically generated from the Livelink structures and metadata.
To help organizations manage and maintain content over time, Content Management for Livelink will also offer tools to audit details about content, report on how often content is viewed, and analyze which content is viewed most and least often.
Content Management for Livelink will also provide out-of-the-box integration with industry-leading application servers and personalization engines, such as BEA's Weblogic and IBM's Websphere.
