Unified Views Bring Together Content to Fit the Needs of Project Teams and Individuals
Chicago, IL - 2002-06-26 - Open Text Corporation (Nasdaq: OTEX, TSX: OTC), provider of Livelink®, the leading collaboration and knowledge management software for the global enterprise, today introduced Livelink UNITE which lets users create virtual workspaces with tailored content for project teams and individuals. Livelink UNITE streamlines collaboration by presenting a unified view of all content needed by a project team collaborating online or individuals who want easy access to content that fits their job roles.
Livelink UNITE brings together workspaces, documents, meetings, discussions, and other content from any number of Livelink repositories into a common user interface, helping project teams access and share information as they collaborate in Livelink. With Livelink UNITE, team leaders and managers can also create and push content to project teams or individuals throughout an organization. Livelink UNITE also includes brokered search capabilities, allowing users to submit single search queries to multiple data sources and receive one set of results.
"We were looking for a new way for people to share information from geographically diverse locations and collaborate online, with the end goal of increasing productivity," said Hugh Banister, Global IS Manager, Premier Oil. "Our solution needed to accommodate multiple Business Units around the world. Livelink UNITE offers a unique solution by letting employees work together and exchange information through a personalized window designed around their needs and interests. Each user is shielded from the complexities of the underlying IT architecture, and is presented only with the information that is relevant to them, independent of the information location."
"Finding the right information in the vast repositories of data in companies today too often slows collaboration," said Anik Ganguly, executive vice president of products at Open Text. "Livelink UNITE streamlines collaboration by giving users one-click access to all the content they need from a single interface, filtering out the content they don't need and helping them to be more productive."
According to Gartner, Inc., "The vast explosion of unstructured data types is overwhelming the management infrastructure of many enterprises. It is negatively affecting the productivity of individuals and the overall competitiveness of enterprises. It is the need for better organization, access and processes around digitally based collaborative work products and processes that the would-be smart enterprise suite vendors are trying to address."*
With Livelink UNITE, users set up virtual workspaces by selecting items of interest from any Livelink system to which they have access. Users can also create tailored tree-view "context maps" for easy, one-click access to and navigation of content in Livelink from key starting points.
Livelink UNITE Views offer managers the ability to publish headlines, banners, information and other content packaged together, which can be targeted to individuals or specific user communities. For example, a human resources department can develop pre-packaged content for new hires and provide directly to new hires via their UNITE workspaces.
Livelink UNITE's brokered search capabilities let users submit a single query and receive combined results from multiple Livelink repositories, public and internal search engines, and from other authenticated sites.
