Largest IT Service Provider for German Energy Sector Selects Livelink from Open Text

Livelink Integrates with SAP R/3 to Support Process Management and Project Efficiencies at is:energy

Chicago, IL - 2002-06-07 - Open Text Corporation (Nasdaq: OTEX, TSX: OTC), provider of Livelink®, the leading collaboration and knowledge management software for the global enterprise, today announced that is:energy selected Open Text's Livelink® to meet its process management and project efficiency deliverables and significantly improve operations by connecting Livelink to ERP systems, including SAP R/3. Livelink's Web-based architecture and its ability to integrate seamlessly with cross-platform legacy systems enabled is:energy to experience rapid implementation and a deployment cycle of just three months.

"Livelink's open and interoperable architecture allows us to extend its collaboration and knowledge management functionality, reducing overhead for our customers by enabling them to effectively leverage investments in complementary software solutions with systems like SAP R/3," said Mike Farrell, Senior Vice President of Global Sales and Marketing, Open Text. "Livelink is flexible enough to grow with is:energy and continue to meets its needs as the organization evolves."

A joint venture between E.ON Energy and Cap Gemini, is:energy is the largest IT service provider for the German energy sector. As the platform for its knowledge base, is:energy's Livelink solution consists of two key components: the Knowledge Workspace (KWS) and the Project Information System (PINS). Together, KWS and PINS promote organizational efficiency and productivity by enabling is:energy to manage, distribute and reuse corporate knowledge.

Livelink provides is:energy with a comprehensive set of effective collaboration tools. By enabling project participants to work together on project-related documents, Livelink closes the communication gaps caused by time differences and geographical locations. "We needed a solution that would allow us to work with project documents any time from any location without additional efforts," said Christine Stockheim, Project Office Manager, is:energy.

To ensure that users are always working with the most current information for internal research and development projects, is:energy relies on the XML standard for fast data interchange within its information exchange system known as IAS. This system is made up of Seeburger AG's Business Component Integration Serverä; Software AG's XML database server, Taminoä; and Open Text Affinity Partner, SAW's Dynamic Document (SAWDynDoc) module. Project reports are now always up-to-date, as Livelink initiates requests via the IAS system to other legacy systems, such as SAP R/3, and retrieves updated data that generates a new Livelink version of the project report. Reports can now be updated in just a mouse-click, dramatically streamlining the reporting process and improving efficiencies at is:energy.

Return on investment, rapid deployment, a rich feature set and process orientation were the key criteria for is:energy's KM system of choice. The core competence of is:energy is the efficiency of its knowledge-based project and process management. "Today, up-to-date knowledge made available from anywhere becomes a key factor for production. Collaborative Web-based workspace solutions such as Livelink make an ideal choice for a powerful knowledge strategy," said Klaus J. Schrötter, Manager of Innovation Management, is:energy.
