Sinclair Knight Merz Group Chooses Livelink Enterprise-Wide
Open Text's Collaborative Knowledge Management Solution Selected Over Seven Competitors
Chicago, IL - 2001-12-18 - Open Text Corporation (Nasdaq: OTEX; TSE: OTC), a worldwide leader in delivering collaborative commerce solutions, announced today that the Sinclair Knight Merz Group, one of Australia's leading independent professional services consulting firms, will implement Livelink® enterprise-wide. Currently, Sinclair Knight Merz Group is involved in several of the world's most high profile infrastructure developments, including docklands projects in London England, the Dublin Light Rail, and power generation and mineral projects across Asia. Livelink will enable engineers working on these projects to collaborate, exchange drawings and related documents on everything from excavation to drainage, and offer access to this information to clients via a Livelink extranet application.
Livelink will support the Sinclair Knight Merz Group's Worldwide Information-Sharing Environment (WiSE), a Web-based information-sharing environment which includes both intranet and extranet applications for the company's employees, trading partners and clients.
Livelink will enable Sinclair Knight Merz Group to establish 'virtual' project teams and bring the best skills to every project regardless of geographical distance and organizational boundary. Livelink enables the creation of extranets, which will provide clients and trading partners with direct access to proposals and documents, allowing a project manager in Dublin to communicate in real-time with an engineer in Kuala Lumpur and the client in Sydney, improving review and response times.
"We evaluated seven knowledge management packages but chose Open Text's Livelink for its return on investment performance, Web-friendly environment and ease of integration with our existing legacy environment," said Peter Nevin, Information Systems Manager, Sinclair Knight Merz Group. "Moreover, Livelink demonstrated it could work successfully in a decentralised environment and at low bandwidth, meeting our total cost of ownership ratios for cross border communications. Its format for the organization of information and ease of customization were compelling. We anticipate immediate benefits and high returns for our business in the year ahead."
Changes within the consulting firm and a raft of acquisitions have made knowledge and its management a critical business issue for Sinclair Knight Merz Group which, at any one time, can be working on up to 10,000 active jobs. By collating the firm's collective skills and cumulative experience into a globally accessible document library and providing tools to manage the project-related information, Livelink can help reduce duplication, re-use existing proposals and project documents, promote consistency, and streamline project administration.
"Livelink will provide us with a truly open, shared information environment that will meet our business objectives of encouraging a culture of learning and innovation while delivering commercial and technical solutions which create value for our clients, producing measurable, tangible results. It will have a catalytic impact on our innovation as a company bringing teams together like never before," added Mr. Nevin.
"More and more, businesses are turning to collaboration to provide them with that competitive edge," said Mike Farrell, Executive Vice President, Global Sales and Marketing. "The Sinclair Knight Merz Group's choice of Livelink is both a testament to the return on investment organizations gain using Livelink to fully leverage the collective strength of their employees, partners and customers, and proof of the superior technology of Open Text's collaborative knowledge management solution even when placed in the most demanding of competitive situations."
