Livelink provides The Royal Bank of Scotland's Shipping Division with electronic documentation capabilities

London, UK - 2001-08-06 - Open Text Corporation (Nasdaq: OTEX, TSE: OTC), a world-wide leader in collaborative commerce applications, today announced that The Royal Bank of Scotland, a leading European financial services group, has implemented Livelink® to improve the management of information resources within its shipping division.

Livelink will be used to facilitate information flow and collaboration between the bank's offices and customers. Using Livelink, The Royal Bank of Scotland Shipping Division (RBS Shipping) will be able to share, process and retrieve all information, via a secure, but easily accessible network. Livelink is a fully integrated collaborative knowledge management platform on which new functionality can easily be built as it is deployed throughout an enterprise.

Amanda Blake, Banking Services Director at RBS Shipping, commented: "Livelink will enhance collaboration across our network of global offices and between partners and customers in the shipping industry. By creating an online working environment we can enable users to share knowledge and documents and avoid the time consuming and costly administration involved in traditional processes."

Blake added: "Financial services for the shipping industry involve extremely complex processes, with hundreds of thousands of mandates requiring careful management. Livelink enables us to put all documents onto a fully backed-up system that secures against loss and helps us realise greater productivity by avoiding delays in workflow."

Livelink enables highly classified documents to be centralised on a secure network so that information is protected whilst allowing authorised users to easily access accurate, up-to-date data online. Livelink will enable RBS Shipping to improve the efficiency of company-wide communications. Users will have access to contracts, dockets, client data and all information concerning shipping insurance contracts. In addition, Livelink's virtual collaboration features will enable users to retrieve information and collaborate on projects from anywhere and at any time.

Andrew Pery, Senior Vice President of Global Marketing, Open Text, said: "Collaborative business applications are increasingly being implemented to improve the efficiency of a company's business processes. The Royal Bank of Scotland is committed to achieving the highest level of integration and access to information and knowledge, and we are pleased to be working with them to realise their goal."
