SGI Manufacturing Organization Selects Open Text's Livelink To Enable Knowledge Management Via Extranet
Collaboration with International Supplier Expected to Significantly Decrease Manufacturing Cycle Time
Chicago, IL - 1999-06-01 - Open Text Corporation, (NASDAQ:OTEX, TSE:OTC) the leader in Web-based collaborative knowledge management software, today announced that Silicon Graphics, Inc. (NYSE:SGI) has chosen Livelink® for a knowledge management application via an international extranet. The extranet will enable the company's manufacturing organization to more efficiently exchange ideas and documents with a key international supplier, and is expected to significantly reduce manufacturing cycle time.
SGI, a leading supplier of visual computing and high-performance systems, plans to deploy Livelink to manage the extranet as a solution to a complex information-sharing system that previously utilized email. Before Livelink, email limited the efficiency and effectiveness of communication between SGI and its partner. As documents were developed, collaborating via email became a slow and cumbersome process. With Livelink, SGI and the supplier will be able to view the same online version of documents and conduct workgroup discussions in real time. As a result, SGI anticipates that documents will be drafted more quickly, and with the speed of the decision-making increased, the entire manufacturing cycle time will ultimately be reduced, saving time and money.
"With Livelink, we expect to significantly shorten our manufacturing cycle and improve communication with an important partner," said Peter Williamson, Manager, Supply Chain Strategy, Desktop Operations, SGI. "One of the key elements of a successful supplier relationship is the ability to fully leverage the combined capabilities of the two companies. We expect Livelink to be an enabling technology for us in that respect."
"An increasing number of our customers are using Livelink to facilitate improved communication and collaboration through extranets," said Dan Latendre, Vice President of Product Marketing, Open Text Corporation. "SGI's use of Livelink as an extranet solution to share knowledge and work together across diverse platforms and geographic locations will enable the company to streamline their information-sharing processes and reduce manufacturing costs."
