Open Text Unveils E-Business Strategy for Building and Managing Online Trading Communities at Livelinkup 99

Waterloo, ON - 1999-10-14 - Open Text Corporation (NASDAQ: OTEX, TSE: OTC), the leading provider of collaborative knowledge management (CKM) and corporate portal solutions, today announced that it will unveil its e-business strategy at its annual worldwide User Conference, LiveLinkUp 99, from October 17th to 19th, in Haines City, Florida. As a key part of this strategy, Open Text will showcase its family of integrated solutions and demonstrate its comprehensive platform for building and sustaining e-business trading communities.

These online trading communities, powered by Open Text, will fully leverage the power of the Web, intranets, extranets and portal applications. Open Text s unique e-business platform combines virtual team collaboration, knowledge libraries, and e-commerce with highly-focused, personalized content from internal and external sources, including industry data, enterprise business systems, consumer links, news feeds and more.

As the long-standing leader in delivering Web-based collaborative knowledge management solutions, Open Text has progressively added technologies to its CKM base as part of a larger e-business strategy focused on the management of e-communities, said Les McNeill, Executive Vice President Marketing, Open Text Corporation.

During the three-day conference, Open Text will present a full range of integrated collaborative, commerce and content solutions for communities of common interest. Open Text s technology alliance with SAP will be showcased as an excellent example of how collaborative knowledge management services can connect buyers and sellers and give users the ability to form virtual collaborative teams, share business critical information, and leverage the collective experience of the entire SAP user community.

In response to dynamically changing market demands, Global 2000 companies need to extend and evolve collaboration outside the enterprise in a business to business environment," said David Yockleson, Vice President and Director, META Group. Collaborative project management, as well as externalization of information and process with partners and customers, will result in business benefits that will drive and redefine e-business.

Mr. Yockleson will be speaking at the conference on Monday, October 18th. He has extensive experience in the electronic business and commerce, document/content supply chain, collaboration, and portal markets. Other keynote speakers, including Alan Matula, CIO Shell Chemical, and Lisa Kimball, CEO, Caucus Systems, will also be featured. Throughout the conference, Open Text customers will lead breakout sessions detailing their deployments of Livelink, Open Text s flagship product. Nortel Networks will explain measuring the impact and success of Livelink-based collaborative knowledge management solutions, Sprint will present a model for scaling Livelink to large, global user populations, and Lockheed Martin will lead a discussion on the value of extranets in extending a company s reach to partners and customers.
