Open Text And Research In Motion Announce Strategic Relationship To Connect RIM Wireless Handhelds With Livelink

BlackBerry and Livelink to Enable Enhanced Communication and Collaboration for Mobile Users

Waterloo, ON - 2000-03-22 - Open Text Corporation (Nasdaq: OTEX, TSE: OTC), the leading provider of collaborative intranet, extranet and e-business applications, and Research In Motion Limited (Nasdaq: RIMM, TSE: RIM), a world leader in the mobile communications market, today announced a strategic relationship. Open Text and RIM plan to integrate Livelink® and BlackBerry features so that mobile Livelink users may collaborate dynamically within their organizations and throughout their supply chain communities. This announcement marks the beginning of an important relationship between the two companies as Open Text expands its strategy to provide pervasive and integrated information services to its 3.6 million Livelink users.

"With e-business fast becoming the model for effective business interaction, business communications and transactions are increasingly time critical," said Jim Balsillie, Chairman and Co-CEO, Research In Motion. "By enabling Livelink users with RIM's 'Always On, Always Connected ' wireless solutions, they can now continue to interact through e-business applications while they are out of the office."

"As the popularity of wireless solutions like BlackBerry grows, Livelink users are looking for 'anywhere, anytime' access," said Tom Jenkins, CEO, Open Text. "By teaming with RIM, Open Text is able to extend user access to Livelink beyond the desktop, meeting the wireless e-business needs of our customers. We believe that this relationship greatly expands the market for Livelink use beyond the current market of desktop devices. "

The BlackBerry wireless email solution includes a powerful wireless handheld with integrated email/organizer software, PC docking cradle, PC synchronization software, single mailbox integration and affordable nationwide airtime. It features an end-to-end security system whereby all corporate email remains encrypted at all points between the desktop PC and the BlackBerry Handheld, meeting standard corporate security guidelines. The "push model" of email delivery that BlackBerry provides does not require the user to dial-in or initiate the connection, so users receive notification as a new email arrives and can respond immediately.

Livelink is a highly scaleable e-business application. Its richly-featured enterprise services include virtual team collaboration, business process automation, enterprise group scheduling and information retrieval services, all tightly integrated into a solution that is easily customized and extended. Livelink is essential to the effective management and development of communities of interest that span organizations and industries. For everything from the creation of complex e-community relationships to the automation of simple e-business processes, Livelink delivers true dynamic collaboration between individuals, organizations, and large trading communities.

Using Livelink's e-mail integration module and the interactive two-way communication capabilities of BlackBerry, users will have secure, collaborative access to Livelink systems in mobile environments . Livelink users will be able to set a notification for any event that occurs within Livelink, such as a change in status of a document or a completed step in a workflow, and receive timely updates on their BlackBerry Handheld.
