b2bScene.com Launches Collaborative e-marketplace for Engineers
b2bScene.com partners with Wilbanks Technologies to provide engineering application and content expertise
WATERLOO, ONT. - 2000-03-16 - b2bScene.com , a division of Open Text Corporation (Nasdaq: OTEX, TSE: OTC), today announced its collaborative commerce e-marketplace specifically for the engineering industry. b2bScene.com has partnered with Wilbanks Technologies, a leading systems integration and consulting firm and a member of the Open Text Affinity program, to provide engineering applications, specialized content and domain expertise for its engineering trading communities. Open Text and Wilbanks share a number of customers across many industries including Parsons Co., Lucent Technologies and Shell Services.
In partnering with Wilbanks, b2bScene.com will offer the premier engineering e-marketplace for collaboration between engineers, architects, contractors, and suppliers. This e-marketplace enables members to share ideas, documents and drawings over the Web in a secure collaborative environment.
Wilbanks has created Team Vu, an integrated suite of engineering applications, including PDM and CAD/CAM functionality, which are combined with b2bScene.com's specialized industry content and collaboration services (www.businesswebsource.com). With Team Vu, team managers and engineers can now tackle the challenges unique to online engineering design and manufacturing by allowing them to manage projects over the Web from start to finish.
"For the first time, engineers have access to a secure environment that offers advanced engineering applications and end-to-end collaboration on projects from design through construction and into the maintenance phase," said Kirk Roberts, President, b2bScene.com. "Other engineering e-marketplaces concentrate on only one stage of the collaborative process and provide little value-added content. But with BusinessWeb's industry-specific news and Wilbank's powerful engineering solutions, b2bScene.com and TeamVu truly simplify the design-to-build process, enabling engineers to work through an entire project online, and adding value with categorized content resources specific to their interests and industry."
"A unification of team thinking will be created through the use of accessible, organized information and free discussion of ideas in real-time. b2bScene.com's specialized e-business applications, content and hosted services combined with TeamVu, our Web-based engineering application, enable project teams to collaborate in ways that were never before possible," said Tom Wilbanks, President, Wilbanks Technologies.
The engineering e-marketplace is b2bScene.com's second industry marketplace offering, and the engineering community from b2bScene.com and Wilbanks is one of over 1,800 communities that b2bScene.com is developing with key partners.
