OpenText has a long history of developing products and solutions that leverage the Microsoft technology portfolio. For over a decade, OpenText's Content Server (formerly Livelink ECM Enterprise Server) product has run on the server side on successive versions of Microsoft Windows servers, SQL Server databases and Internet Information Services (IIS), and since general availability, has supported .NET and Microsoft Exchange. Client applications run on Windows through Microsoft Internet Explorer and support user productivity though integration with Microsoft Office applications such as Word, Excel and PowerPoint, and more recently SharePoint.

OpenText has committed to support the latest version of Microsoft's flagship development tool, Visual Studio 2005, for the development of new OpenText ECM Suite Solutions that integrate with SharePoint Portal Server 2003 and later versions. By supporting Visual Studio 2005, OpenText developers can extend SharePoint Portal Server functionality with OpenText Content Server's (formerly Livelink Enterprise Server's) additional ECM capabilities to create business and vertical market solutions.
