The GlobalStar Enterprise Awards are presented annually at the OpenText user conference, Content World. OpenText customers from around the world are recognized for their outstanding efforts in deriving business value from innovative and successful ECM deployments.
This year's finalists have demonstrated the highest level of achievement using both creative and innovative approaches to managing content across their organization. The awards were mapped to the three value pillars of the ECM Suite - Lifecycle; Transaction and Engagement. OpenText also recognized a Ground-Breaker award winner, four ECM Best Practices Awards, an ROI Award, and the 2011 winner for Overall Strategic Success.
Overall Winner - Strategic Success
SABIC (Saudi Basic Industries Corporation). SABIC, one of the world's leading manufacturers of chemicals, fertilizers, thermoplastics, polyethylene, polypropylene, and metals, will be deploying the OpenText ECM Suite to its over 33,000 employees around the world for a single integrated environment to manage documents in an efficient and transparent manner. The OpenText ECM Suite offers SABIC comprehensive features for document management, records management and integration with SAP and Microsoft SharePoint. The centralized ECM solution will enable SABIC employees to manage the diverse range of information across different systems in an efficient manner, allowing the company to perform effectively as a knowledge based organization. Furthermore, use of a central solution will improve collaboration between offices around the world, which is increasingly important at an international company like SABIC. Ground-Breaker Award
Emergency Medicine Physicians. Using OpenText Customer Engagement Solutions, Emergency Medicine Physicians (EMP) designed an intranet site that delivers a unique user interface emulating the iPhone to provide dispersed physicians with improved access to applications and a more personalized end user experience. In June 2011, EMP purchased the OpenText Mobile Wave platform and within seven weeks, launched seven native applications that reside on an iPhone, an iPad, almost any Android device and BlackBerrys. Physicians have access to everything they need in the palm of their hands, on the device of their choice. GlobalStar Enterprise ROI Award
PPD, Inc. PPD is a leading global contract research organization, providing drug discovery, development and lifecycle management services. Safety case documents are required by the drug regulatory agencies in each country where PPD performs clinical research. Thousands of documents are processed every year. Using OpenText Content Server and Workflow, PPD developed a paperless process for safety case documents that increases efficiency and reduces costs by streamlining and automating receiving, routing, logging, tracking and reconciling documents while eliminating the need for printing, scanning and manually maintaining tracking systems. PPD conducted ROI analysis based on time spent doing the paper process vs. automated process. The processing time was cut in half by changing to the electronic process.
GlobalStar Enterprise Award - Lifecycle
Winner: The Mosaic Company. The Mosaic Company, the world's largest supplier of phosphate and potash, is implementing a holistic worldwide approach to content management that will serve staff in seven countries and four languages. Their goals include introducing a 'single source of the truth' for their information and compliance needs, including records retention, eDiscovery, and controlled document compliance for ISO. Runner Up: The Library of Parliament of Canada. The Library of Parliament is the main information repository and research resource for the Parliament of Canada. OpenText Content Server is the foundation for enterprise record and content lifecycle management throughout the organization, providing the Library with a place to house new and historical information. OpenText Workflow manages the creation of research documents from initiation and authoring, through to publishing and delivery. The OpenText solution ensures that research information is findable, accessible, re-usable and appropriately protected. OpenText partner, Deloitte, worked closely with the Library of Parliament to implement the solution and offered their technical expertise throughout the project. GlobalStar Enterprise Award - Transaction
Winner: Celanese. Celanese is using OpenText Vendor Invoice Management for SAP® Solutions to automate their accounts payable processes in North America, Europe and Asia and bring better visibility on process gaps. The workflow solution is used to process the flow of 40,000 invoices on average per month. The whole Procure to Pay process was improved by implementing the solution. Having an all-in-one workflow with invoice image, comments and information related to the particular invoice helps Celanese to avoid manual research and unnecessary information flowing via other channels.
Runner Up: DFS Singapore. DFS is the world's leading luxury retailer catering to the travelling public. OpenText Supplier Information Management for SAP® Solutions has helped DFS to significantly improve the effectiveness of their Worldwide Shared Services Centre for non-merchandising invoices. In less than one year, DFS was able to increase the accuracy and number of transactions processed. The fully integrated system provides DFS management with timely information for better decision making. In addition, IT support requests have been minimized, which allows existing IT resources to focus on innovation and increasing business productivity.
GlobalStar Enterprise Award - Engagement
Winner: Telefónica. Telefónica is one of the world leaders in the telecommunication sector, providing communication, information and entertainment solutions, with a presence in Europe, Africa and Latin America. Using OpenText Customer Experience Management, Telefónica service went from analog to digital, from Call Center to Internet. Telefónica's customers can log into the website and manage their full product features, change billing accounts, ask for repairs and other relationship demands. Telefonica's Web site was key to changing customer perception of the company. From IT to Legal to Business, Telefónica's web page is not only a communication and advertising channel, it is a top of mind, referenced, functional and cost saving channel for the company.
ECM Best Practices - ECM Ecosystem Solution
Hydro One. Hydro One has created an ECM platform for their different lines of business to collaborate and manage their unstructured data while ensuring governance and policies are in place. OpenText Content Server acts as the central repository to store corporate information including SharePoint and SAP documents. The solution includes managing SAP documents via OpenText's Extended ECM for SAP® Solutions. One central system makes it easier for Hydro One to apply appropriate disposition rules and reduce IT costs. Hydro One looks to extend the OpenText functionality to include mobile solutions and email management while maintaining the same infrastructure backbone to help consolidate their systems. ECM Best Practices - Digital Media
Corus Entertainment. OpenText's digital asset management software, Media Management, is at the heart of Corus' new broadcast system and provides desktop browse and edit for Corus' clients, both internal and external. The media management system acts as the central repository, enabling reuse and repurposing of the digital content of their television programming - maintaining metadata integrity and multi-language track. Media Management end-to-end workflow capabilities allow for automated and assisted processes, the ability to transform content to proper format and tracking the history and usage of all assets. More efficient processes, elimination of replicated work tasks, and faster time to market have resulted in significant cost savings for Corus.
ECM Best Practices -Customer Communication Management
Shell International Trading and Shipping. Shell has created one of the world's largest implementations of OpenText StreamServe. It has become central to Shell's Energy business. StreamServe manages documents used throughout the business, including Sales, Billing, Finance, and Contract management. It is integrated with SAP as the main provider of business data to produce customer facing documentation. It is used in over eight countries for all customer documentation. Shell's customer documents can be generated in seconds to meet all their requirements, delivered in the format that they want. It can also provide rapid development for new formats to allow Shell to win new customers and save costs at the same time.
ECM Best Practices -User Adoption
Barrick Gold Corporation. The Barrick Knowledge Centre for institutional knowledge, organizational expertise and best practices was built leveraging Content Server and the Communities of Practice (CoP) module. Barrick customized the look and feel of the standard CoP module to ensure ease of use and has been quite successful in growing user adoption. The implementation provides easy access to important content that helps people do their jobs, such as policies, standards, templates, guidelines, and on-line training. The Knowledge Centre is designed to save people time looking for documents, to upgrade the quality of documentation, and to increase employee engagement and networking.
