The GlobalStar Enterprise Awards are presented annually at the OpenText user conference, Content World. OpenText customers from around the world are recognized for their outstanding efforts in deriving business value from innovative and successful ECM deployments.
OpenText's comprehensive ECM Suite enables businesses to achieve greater efficiency, innovation, and compliance by empowering people, automating processes, and controlling the risk and cost of content. The 2009 awards were designed to match the primary business propositions of the OpenText ECM Suite: 'Control,' 'Empower,' and 'Agility.' OpenText also recognized two Ground-Breaker award winners, two ECM Best Practices Awards, and a winner for Overall Strategic Success.
Overall Winner - Strategic Success:
National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID): NIAID has created a true enterprise platform using OpenText Document Management to support its many disparate groups and applications. The OpenText system is currently used in scientific areas, back office operations, institute-wide administrative processes, laboratory operations, human resources, grant management and several other areas. The wide variety of business processes, technologies, and end-users creates significant opportunities to leverage solutions across the entire organization. NIAID's DM system is currently integrated into many of the Institute initiatives including the SharePoint-based Intranet; the R&D contracts and solicited grants awards process; equipment purchases; property management; telework requests; clinical documentation management; publication review; staff review and biomedical research protocol management. Business processes are faster, more efficient, and easier to manage.
Ground-Breaker Award
Winner: Marathon Oil Corporation: Marathon Oil Corporation is implementing an ECM solution that leverages the strengths of OpenText and Microsoft. The large scale and leading edge integration of OpenText with Microsoft applications has created a comprehensive enterprise records management foundation that is transparent to end-users. Also included in the solution is OpenText's eDiscovery Early Case Assessment Solution. Marathon's overall goals are to improve business processes, proactively manage records in accordance with legal and regulatory compliance requirements, and provide employees with new ways to share information.
Runner Up: South African Government: Western Cape Provincial Department of Transport and Public Works: OpenText is used by the South African Government: Western Cape Provincial Department of Transport and Public Works as their primary solution for document and records management, collaboration, content capture, and process workflows. The successful implementation of OpenText Document Management and Knowledge Management Suite within DT&PW has lead to OpenText being adopted as the ECM Standard for the entire Provincial Government of the Western-Cape comprised of 11 Departments and an estimated 20,000 users.
GlobalStar Enterprise Award - Control
Winner: Central Vermont Public Service (CVPS): OpenText Document Management with Records Management is deployed enterprise wide at CVPS. Benefits include better content organization and access, increased efficiency, and more seamless employee collaboration. The power utility industry is highly regulated and OpenText Records Management helps CVPS ensure compliance related to many information retention requirements. In 2009, CVPS implemented SharePoint and OpenText CLM Services for SharePoint, offering external users seamless access to the content stored in both the OpenText and SharePoint repositories. The OpenText system provides a records management and archival system for managing the complete lifecycle of business content.
Runner Up: Husky Energy, Inc.: Husky Energy has been using OpenText Document Management with Records Management since 2006. This year, Husky added OpenText Extended ECM for SAP(r) Solutions, for unified records management for SAP human resources content. Using Extended ECM, Husky is taking unstructured organizational content and uniting it with their SAP HR business process for improved record management practices. This not only saves time and the cost of filing and retrieving information, it drives additional value from the business processes themselves-all the while improving compliance.
GlobalStar Enterprise Award - Empower
Winner: Motorola: Motorola has been using OpenText Document Management since 1997 to more efficiently manage and organize data, information, and documents within the company. In 2009, Motorola solidified its intranet 2.0 strategy and is providing employees with greatly enhanced collaboration. Community blogs, wikis and forums are available to share and discuss best practices, tips, and the latest applications. Every employee has the tools needed to find information, work together and communicate-all through a standard Web browser. The system also expanded into the Extranet allowing internal employees to share information with partners, suppliers, and customers.
Runner-Up: Eandis: Eandis implemented a complete ECM infrastructure including integrations between OpenText Document Management and Web Content Management, and various IT systems including SAP(r) Portal for basic content management services (search and browse documents), and SAP/R3 and OpenText Archive Server for archiving legal documents. The ECM vision at Eandis includes document management, Web content management, records management, business process management, workflow and collaboration. The new Eandis Web site is linked to the OpenText Document Management repository, which prevents the duplication of documents and ensures the latest version of is available. Eandis also created a secure extranet environment making documents available to partners and suppliers by means of a protected extranet area.
GlobalStar Enterprise Award - Agility
Winner: TXU Energy: TXU Energy is using OpenText Document Management and the OpenText ECM Suite for SAP(r) Solutions as the backbone for innovative solutions for both internal and external end-user needs. It is an enterprise wide deployment. TXU Energy deployed the OpenText ECM Suite for SAP(r) Solutions to create a single unified view of all documents generated out of their SAP systems. Benefits of the OpenText technology include: centralized storage of all documents of record; increased accountability through versioning, tracking and auditing; speed access to data, and documents and information are accessible through a unified platform.
Runner Up: PTT Public Chemical Company: PTT Public Chemical Company has designed an ECM foundation throughout the entire organization using the OpenText ECM Suite. It is a single solution for SAP and SharePoint integration. The company has improved spare part management and the R&D process cycle to produce product faster and more cost effectively by Enterprise Content Management and Program Management respectively.
ECM Best Practices - Vendor Invoice Management
Delhaize Group: Delhaize Group is deploying OpenText Vendor Invoice Management for SAP(r) Solutions to streamline accounts payable (AP) operations. Invoices are processed more efficiently and invoice handling is shorter with one common, user friendly tool that simplifies and improves the processes. Delhaize Group are also using OpenText Archiving for SAP solutions for secure, long-term archiving of SAP documents. Business advantages include better integration to financial systems, improved process cycle times, stronger financial controls, and better compliancy mechanisms.
ECM Best Practices - Marketing and Media Management
Electronic Arts (EA): Electronic Arts re-launched EA.com in 2009 with goals to increase product awareness through additional marketing assets such as video, screenshots, and interactive features; provide a shopping cart application and a smooth check out process; Search Engine Optimization; and reduce production and maintenance costs. Using Vignette Media, EA content managers have one central point of content management. A custom integration into the OpenText Digital Asset Management system allows EA online marketing managers to easily integrate digital assets, including screenshots and videos into its content management system. Since the new launch of EA.com the company has increased traffic and revenue and introduced more content than ever before.
