Meet Our People

Adrian

"Working at OpenText allows me to achieve a successful work/life balance without making large sacrifices in both my role as husband and as a father of two young children.

The Hummingbird Connectivity division is a culturally diverse group of people who all share a common goal and who feel more like they are part of a family than a large corporation."

On the Job Making a Difference…

"Ultimately you get a great sense of accomplishment when you hear real customers are benefiting from something you had a hand in making.  It is even better when you implement something complicated and because it works reliably, it goes unnoticed by those people using it every day.

It’s also very satisfying to know that planes are being built; trains are running smoothly; traders are working effectively – all because many of companies that perform these tasks rely on our software every day."

"OT has allowed me to grow as a professional by allowing me the opportunity to expand my job scope and responsibility.  I’ve had six different roles in the eight and a half years I’ve been here.  I’ve been challenged and supported by the management team and have found the work rewarding."

Michael

I joined Hummingbird Connectivity, a division of OpenText in June 1998, as a Technical Support Representative for the NFS Maestro Product Line then in October 2000 worked for R&D as a Pretest Engineer.  In August 2001 moved to QA Department where I fulfill my current role as Software Quality Assurance Analyst. My current role comprises of daily interaction with multiple departments for quick resolution of problems, insuring software testing completion, patch write-ups and releases, hardware maintenance and upgrades.  It is a very comprehensive and fulfilling role where everyday holds new challenges."

Peter

"My time at OpenText started as an intern software developer with R&D working for the NFS Maestro product. Upon completing my undergrad degree in Computer Engineering, I took the opportunity to return to my development role, with added responsibilities. Over the next few challenging and rewarding years, I have worked with teams in other offices on large projects, attended conferences, and contributed significant work to the core of our products."

On our Corporate Culture…

"Having experienced working on a rigid schedule for other employers, it was refreshing to work in an environment with flex hours. More importantly however is the flexibility afforded to me in my day to day work in applying my creativity in the design and development of the product."

On the Job Making a Difference…

"Working with a great manager to deliver software used by customers with hundreds of users worldwide is a gratifying experience. It’s rewarding to know that so many people are using the software I have helped create and rely on it for their every day work.

I am currently pursuing an MBA degree to advance my knowledge and abilities and further my potential for growth within OpenText. Fortunately, OpenText’s educational assistance program is helping to fund my educational ambitions. Combined, my education and experience will undoubtedly fuel my advancement at OpenText."

"I love my job! I love my company, my co-workers, my customers, even my office view. How many people can say that? Well I can.

My career started in April 1996 in the Customer Support department assisting customers with their product questions and now I work as a Senior Marketing Manager promoting our solutions to new markets and ensuring our customers are always kept up to date with information on our technology. Over the years, I have been honoured to work with dedicated and great co-workers, felt appreciated and acknowledged for my hard work and dedication and confident in consistently learning and growing. This job is not a place I work at. This job is my life. I am surrounded by a supportive community beginning with great mentors, colleagues and extending to an influential executive leadership group. My company encourages all employees to be their best, seek work-life balance and always feel proud of their achievements. I am a proud OpenTexter!”

Robbie

"I started work in the office as a Product Specialist, then worked my way up to Senior, which was the point when I started to visit customers onsite for installations and upgrades etc. I agreed to a 4 month secondment to GS, to expand on my skill set, living in Holland full time and visiting customers throughout the entire Benelux region.

I was promoted to Principal Product Specialist upon my return, and shortly after I moved to the Field Services team.  Since then, I’ve worked in countries such as France, Italy, Germany, Norway, Saudi Arabia and South Africa. I’ve also been involved in creating and delivering technical training courses across the EMEA region, and have just finished a 3 year secondment to British Telecom in the UK as their dedicated Enterprise Support onsite resource."

On the Job Making a Difference…

"The thing I enjoy the most about the role is the variety in terms of people (customers and colleagues) that you meet over time. Working with the customers over a number of years, you find yourself getting to know a lot of people pretty well, at least on a professional level, and it really helps to get things done when you have such a good working relationship.

There is the potential to learn a lot technically in the role if you’re so inclined, but it’s also a good opportunity to start developing the softer communications skills."

On Reaching Your Potential…

"The Technical Services team represents a good career path for any Customer Support specialists that want to expand their non-technical skill set, and gain valuable experience of working with customers first hand and not just over the phone."
